Methyl chloride(methyl chloride，choromethane，CH₃Cl), other name is chlormethane, colorless liquefied gas, stored in cylinders when pressurized liquefied. It has the ether odor and sweet. Relative molecular mass is 50.49. Liquid density is 0.92g/cm³(20/4℃). Gas density is 1.785g/L. Boiling point is -23.76℃. It is slight soluble in water, soluble in chloroform, ether, ethanol, and acetone. Not easy combustion and explosion. No corrosion.  High temperature (400℃or above) and in bright light it can be broken down into methanol and hydrochloric acid, heating or meeting flame it generates phosgene.
